Trip to SE Asia

Posted: January 21st, 2011 | Filed under: Travel | No Comments »

I recently got back from a 10 week trip around Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia with my brother. At the beginning of the trip we decided we wanted to take video as much as possible, but that didn’t work out so well. We only ended up with a few clips, but I put them together anyways. The trip was amazing, I already can’t wait to go back.

Fight for the fish

During my last trip to Baja we were on our way to the river mouth to do some kiting when we spotted a Sea Eagle that appeared to be struggling in the surf. At first we thought it was injured, but when we stopped for a closer look we realized that it had caught a fish too big to carry. The Eagle managed it get the fish to the shore and immediately attracted the attention of a Seagull. Not long after that the Seagull was joined by more seagulls and a couple Vultures. The Eagle was persistent, however, and kept struggling to make it’s way up the beach. Suddenly a Pelican arrived out of nowhere and effortlessly snatched the fish out of the grip of the Eagle in one swift chomp of the beak. And luckily we had our camera ready…

Now that I am living in Spain, I actually sometimes miss Vancouver. So here are my favourite places to go out for drinks in the city.

  1. Alibi Room. I love the location and energy here….and of course their amazing selection of beer.
  2. Subeez. This place has a lot of character. The food is fresh, local and delicious, it’s a great place for drinks and good conversation.
  3. Benny’s. Ahh Benny’s, I’ve been going here for a long time now. Their giant mosaic of Jesus smoking a joint pretty much sums this place up.
  4. Honey Lounge. Friday’s Mod Night.
  5. Chill Winston. A posh bar (I’ve been hanging out with too many brits) that has a great patio during the summer.
  6. Railway Club. Upstairs bar with an interesting layout that attracts an extremely varied crowd. Has some great shows.
  7. Havana. Cuban food and pitchers of mojitos.
  8. The Astoria. Pool and some good shows from time to time. I like this place because it is in such a sketchy part of town. You’d never come here otherwise.
  9. Flying Bever. A bar and restaurant frequented by pilots, this is the perfect place to watch sea planes come and go.
  10. Diamond. This upstairs bar has beautiful decor and large windows for people-watching below.
  11. The Kings Head. Great place to go if you just want to drink pitchers of beer.
  12. Anza Club. Australia New Zealand Club. From what I remember I like this place.
  13. The Five Point. Great layout, great atmosphere and great main street location.
  14. Lamplighter. Cool pub in Gastown that is great for a girls night out of dancing.
  15. The Whip. Not what you would expect to find in this location but a great place and great people. Also has a patio with heat lamps I think.

WildatheartLookbook – Yesterday’s Company
www.myspace.com/lookbookmusic

I can’t get enough of Lookbook right now. They have a unique sound…not totally electronic but not too poppy. I’m looking for the lyrics to Yesterday’s Company if anyone can help me out. I found lyrics to a few of their other songs here blogs.myspace.com/lookbookmusic.

Their EP ‘I fear you, my darkness’ is rad as well, especially ‘Believe the hype’. It has a very sexy feel to it. Makes me want to be drinking mojitos on a beautiful, tropical beach in some foreign country.
